Janitor AI is the most generous for text: unlimited free chat, with a context memory of about 9,000 tokens according to its FAQ; Janitor+ multiplies that context by five. SpicyChat has a genuinely usable free plan and the biggest library of community-written characters. Nomi keeps text free with no time limit, with about 50 shorter messages a day.
GoLove goes further than the others for free: text chat, memory, voice messages and standard photos are included according to its site (16 Oct 2026). Premium adds HD and unlimited image generation.

Secrets AI, the top-rated app in our ranking (8.0/10), gives 20 messages a day and 200 Moments, its currency for media. Fanfinity stops at 8 messages once registered. FlirtCam allows chat and non-explicit images within quotas. Candy AI offers a free trial then a subscription with tokens, with no verifiable public monthly price when we checked.
With these apps, the smart move: use the free tier to pick the character and style, then take a yearly plan if you stay, much cheaper per month (Secrets AI: $109.99/year vs $19.99/month).
Free-plan traps
Tokens: images, voice and video are almost always paid per unit, even with a subscription. Welcome discounts: a −70% crossed-out price often applies to the first period only. Disappearing plans: Kindroid ended its lasting free plan on 1 Oct 2026 (a one-time preview, then read-only). And prefer paying on the website rather than in the app: App Store prices are often higher.
