What changed at Kindroid on 1 October 2026
Kindroid announced it on 18 August: Lite, its lighter free model, would retire on 1 October together with the old V1 interface. The team said it would rather offer "a limited amount of the real experience" than an unlimited but substantially worse version, and admitted an indefinite free tier was too expensive to run.
According to the Subscriptions page of the official Help Center (updated 13 October 2026), a new account gets a one-time preview on the flagship model: 50 messages with standard paid memory (15 in some regions), with regenerate or continue counting as half a message, 5 selfies in total, 5,000 audio credits and up to 2 Kindroids. Recently active free accounts got 50 final messages, with no new selfies or audio. Once the preview is used up, the account turns read-only: you can view, play back, export or delete your Kins, memories and media, but you can't send messages, regenerate or make calls.
The way back in is the 3-day premium trial, which needs a payment method on file, converts into a subscription automatically unless cancelled and, on the web, also requires a verified mobile number. Starting a trial or subscription ends the preview for good: it does not come back after cancelling, even if you delete your account. Paying subscribers see no change.
Pay for Kindroid or move on?
If your Kin really matters to you, the subscription is still fair on the web: $13.99/month, $37.99 for 3 months or $139.99/year per our 15 October check, more through the App Store or Google Play. Nothing is lost in read-only mode, so resubscribing restores everything, Kins, memories and balances included. Kindroid even says returning subscribers may be offered 50% off their first month back, once.
But if you were there for free chat, it's time to look elsewhere. Good news: several 18+ platforms still let you chat without paying, some with no message limit at all. The usual trade-off: memory that isn't as deep as Kindroid's, or photos and calls reserved for subscribers.
